Greetings!
The state of health of many Americans is in crisis. What is
health? It is the mental, physical and emotional state of
well-being. Being. What is being? Do you confuse "being" with
"doing"? How often do you forget that you are a human being and not
a human doing?
What part of your day is spent "being" and
what part of your day is spent "doing". Are you doing too much? Do
you feel that you always have to be doing something to be the person
you are?
It is often in that state of "being" not "doing"
that you are able to listen your inner voice and connect to your
inner spirit.
Often the need to always be doing something,
the need to be busy, gets in the way and creates a stress on your
system. Sort of like pressing on the gas peddle of a car while in
park. And then when finally put in drive - the system is overreved
and the brakes need to be slammed on to get control back. In the
process of this, you may be wearing down your health - and like a
car - may not realize it until a belt pops, the oil dries up, or you
run out of gas.
When the mind and body are out of balance,
it can cause a dis-ease with your spirit - and over time, that
dis-ease may lead to disease. Have you ever said to yourself, "I
should be exercising" yet remain on the couch? How often have you
said, "I shouldn't be eating this" when you are eating? When
confronted with controversy, have you said to yourself "I wish I had
said this or that", but never got those words out.
When the
mind is thinking one thing, yet the action of the body is different,
it may cause a dis-ease with the spirit - a misalignment. Those
built up emotions may go deep inside your tissues and lead to
discomfort, pain and disease. Is there a dis-ease with the person
you are and with the person you want to be? Are you going through
some drama in your life that is leading to trauma? Are your issues
becoming your tissues?
Before that happens, ask yourself
what changes you would like to make. Take a moment to sit down and
make a list of the things that you are doing daily that are keeping
you healthy. Then make a list of the things that you may be doing
that may be overreving your system. And then, make a shift, a
commitment to yourself, to make changes to lead to a more healthful,
purposeful life.
As a health counselor, I am committed to
helping my clients create a more balanced lifestyle. If you are
looking for a quick fix - don't look this way, but if you are ready
to make small changes over time to benefit your health and well
BEING, I will support you on your journey to better
health.
Stay well,
Andrea Tortorella, HHC
